Just a quick refresher on the name vote as the NHL Draft looms.

The excitement is building as the Utah Hockey Club prepares for its first-ever NHL Draft next week Friday and Saturday.

Fans are expected to flood Delta Center to mingle with players and each other as Utah continues its rebuild.

We must remind ourselves, however, of the most important element of the team: its name.

As noted, the Smiths asked fans to vote on the following six names, whittled down from an initial list of 20:

  • Utah Blizzard
  • Utah Venom
  • Utah Yeti
  • Utah Mammoth
  • Utah Outlaws
  • Utah Hockey Club (the current temporary name)

We also know that Yeti and Mammoth were the two most popular names from the first round of voting that saw over 520,000 submissions, as Smith said to Pat McAfee last month.

The second round of voting was scheduled to close Thursday night, and now the wait is on to see if there will be a third round of voting or the if the name will be called out during the NHL Draft.
