While the Arizona Coyotes won 6-0 against the Washington Capitals on Monday night, everything wasn’t all positive.
Top defenceman Sean Durzi went down in the first period after being hit by Tom Wilson, suffering an apparent lower-body injury.
In the second period, it was announced by the team that Durzi would be ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
Coach André Tourigny touched on the topic of Durzi’s injury post game and while he didn’t give much information he also didn’t sound all that encouraging either.
“He is a really good player, important on our special team, but I don’t have news. He didn’t come back and didn’t feel good so we’ll see,” Tourigny said.
Durzi has been excellent to start the season. The 25-year-old has five goals, eight assists and 13 points through 24 games.
He is also the team leader in minutes, playing a total of 22:14, showing off his value. Durzi is arguably the team’s most valuable special teams player as he is the quarterback on the power play and could step up shorthanded too.
It’s unclear how much time Durzi will miss if any at all, but he has played a huge role in the Coyotes most recent success so losing him would be brutal for a team that is currently on a five game winning streak.
There should be more news and clarity regarding Durzi’s health over the next couple of days.
