Without four of their top prospects, the Utah Mammoth struggled to generate offense and were shut out 4-0 by the Los Angeles Kings in their Rookie Showcase finale.
The Utah Mammoth had one final chance to make an impression at the 2026 Rookie Showcase, but missing several of their top prospects made Tuesday’s finale a difficult afternoon.
Without Daniil But, Dmitri Simashev, Michael Hrabal and Artem Duda, Utah struggled to create much offensively and spent much of the game chasing the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-0 loss.
The difference was noticeable from the drop of the puck.
Utah had trouble establishing possession, connecting on passes and creating sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Several turnovers also put the Mammoth in difficult situations, while their special teams never found a rhythm.
With some of Utah’s most talented offensive players out of the lineup, the Mammoth had difficulty generating chances through the middle of the ice. Their power play was especially ineffective, going a dismal 0-for-8 on the afternoon.
Defensively, Utah was equally unimpressive, repeatedly turning the puck over in its own zone and allowing Los Angeles to capitalize on those mistakes by creating scoring chances.
The Kings opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal early in the first period before adding two power-play goals later in the game. Los Angeles eventually completed the shutout with a fourth goal to put the game out of reach.
For Utah, it was a frustrating way to finish the showcase.
Still, the result comes with an important caveat. Four of the organization’s most notable prospects were unavailable, making Tuesday’s lineup far different from the group that took the ice earlier in the tournament.
Now, the showcase is over, and the Mammoth can turn their attention toward the players who will join the organization for training camp.
The Mammoth will begin that transition Wednesday with media day at the Utah Mammoth Ice Center.
Lawson Crouse, Logan Cooley, Dylan Guenther, Clayton Keller, Anders Lee, Nick Schmaltz and Vincent Trocheck. Mikhail Sergachev and MacKenzie Weegar are expected to be available, including goaltender Karel Vejmelka.
On-ice training sessions are scheduled to begin Thursday, officially marking the next stage of Utah’s preparation for the upcoming season.
