André Tourigny gave the tough news on Tuesday that both Travis Dermott and Nick Bjugstad will be out long-term which likely means the remainder of the season.

Arizona Coyotes coach André Tourigny announced that defenseman Travis Dermott and forward Nick Bjugstad are both out long-term with their own respective injuries.

Dermott suffered an upper-body injury during the Coyotes’ Sunday afternoon game against the San Jose Sharks after getting hit from behind by Luke Kunin. Tourigny expects him to be out for the remainder of the season.

“He is out, probably long-term, the rest of the season,” Tourigny said. “Probably we will have more news, but we don’t expect good news, so it is what it is.”

In 50 games this season, the 27-year-old defenseman has two goals, five assists and seven points.

While Tourigny didn’t say Bjugstad will be out for the rest of the year, it seems unlikely the veteran forward will return any time soon. His injury is still undisclosed.

“He is out, he is back in Phoenix,” Tourigny said. “We will have further exams, but it’s not day-to-day, it’s a little bit longer than that, so we’ll see.”

The 31-year-old center has 22 goals, 23 assists and 45 points in 76 games as he is currently in the midst of one of his best statistical seasons.

The Coyotes called up defenseman Maksymilian Szuber and forward Jan Jeník from the Tucson Roadrunners in response to these two injuries.
