Utah's owner Ryan Smith announces that the team will hold the second round of fan voting for team name
Today Utah's NHL team announced that they have opened up the second round of fan voting to determine the team name. The voting period will be from now through June 20th.
After more than 520,000 fans participated in the first vote, the ownership group will turn to the fans to help narrow down the list.
The six final names are:
- Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC)
- Utah Yeti
- Utah Venom
- Utah Mammoth
- Utah Outlaws
- Utah Blizzard
It is worth noting that the first round of voting saw up to 20 team names, and the second round only allowed one vote per email.
It has also been reported that the new NHL franchise will only have 'Utah' across the front, and the jersey colour will likely be black for the first season.
After that, there will be a complete rebrand of the logo and jerseys, which will reflect what the fans voted on as the winning name.
The Smith Entertainment Group also has their NBA franchise, the Utah Jazz, rebranding in the 2025–26 season, which will correspond with the NHL franchise.
I like the Utah Yeti as their new name. However, Utah HC would also be interesting, but it has more of a soccer feel to it. If Smith and his group follow the Jazz's colour scheme, there's a high chance the jerseys could have purple in them after their first season.
