Utah enters the final stretch before the madness of the off-season officially begins with the most cap space in the NHL.
They currently have $43 million in projected cap space and will look to spend as much as they can to make their team competitive.
The question of their biggest need still weighs heavily on GM Bill Armstrong.
It’s no secret behind closed doors; the pro-scouts and management group have already figured out the club's biggest need.
Fans may debate whether it’s defense or if it’s upfront. Utah’s blue line is definitely not the strongest in the NHL, but they have the cash and spots available to sign 2-3 defensemen.
Matt Roy and Shayne Gostisbhere are the two players who fit the team's needs the best on paper. Utah fans shouldn’t also run out of the possibility of Josh Brown returning as a depth option to protect his teammates.
The other side of that debate would be getting their core players some more offensive depth up front. One player that jumps out at me is Elias Lindholm.
He could be exactly what the organization needs from an on-ice perspective.
He can provide the team's top six with more support while also acting as a mentor to their youth.
If Utah wants to be competitive, the organization will need to spend the money and attract players like Roy, Gostisbhere, and Lindholm. They will finally be in a spot to compete for at least a playoff position.
