The Red Wings defenceman was acquired for a third-round draft pick, previously gained from the New York Rangers.

The Utah Hockey Club has made its first in-season trade to help boost its blue line depth.
The club just announced a trade for Olli Maatta, a former two-time Stanley Cup winner and teammate of current Utah HC defenceman Ian Cole, for a third-round draft selection in the 2025 NHL Draft.
In acquiring Maatta, Utah gets some much-needed veteran depth after losing Sean Durzi and John Marino, likely for the season, with injuries.
The 30-year-old Finnish defenceman has been a reliable two-way player for his entire career, tallying 40 goals and 137 assists in 691 career games. He also ranked sixth on the Red Wings last season with 96 blocked shots.
It's unclear whether Maatta will start tomorrow or make his debut Saturday at Vegas, but Utah has a good short-term rental it can use on defence.
It will be interesting to see if general manager Bill Armstrong makes a few more in-season trades to further add to the depth of his squad.
