Utah HC Calls Up Touted Defence Prospect

The Utah Hockey Club recalled 2022 first-round selection Maveric Lamoureaux from the Tucson Roadrunners today, it announced in a press release this morning.

In a corresponding move, the club reassigned defenceman Patrik Koch, who was a healthy scratch for the past three games, back to the Roadrunners.

Lamoureaux has been off to a hot start for Tucson, putting up three points in the first 4 games of the year for the Roadrunners.

In other prospect news, the Roadrunners assigned 2024 fifth-round pick Owen Allard to his junior team, the Soo Greyhounds, along with Noel Nordh, yesterday.

As far as injuries are concerned, the club announced Wednesday that defenceman Sean Durzi underwent successful right shoulder surgery, and will return in 4 to 6 months, which means he could miss the remainder of the season.

Durzi originally suffered the injury on October 14 against the New Jersey Devils after taking a hit from Jonas Siegenthaller, and was immediately ruled out for the foreseeable future by general manager Bill Armstrong.

The club further announced that defenceman John Marino, who had been week-to-week since training camp with a lower-body injury, underwent successful surgery on his lower back.

Marino is expected to miss 3 to 4 months, putting his status for the remainder of the season in doubt, as well.

Lamoureaux's call-up is a welcome boost to the defensive depth of the roster, and possibly opens the door for Utah to make a trade for a short-term rental on the blue line.

The club is currently practicing at the Olympic Oval in preparation for tomorrow's game against Colorado.
