The Utah Hockey Club have had their selves a busy night. Tonight they announced the extension so both forward Alex Kerfoot and defensemen Ian Cole to one-year contracts.
Both contracts carry an AAV of $3 million per season. The only difference is Cole's contract has a $200,000 bonus to bring the total to $3 million.
Utah reportedly had both players on the trade block before reaching an extension with both. They have made it clear that they want to have a good mix of young players and veterans. Adding Kerfoot and Cole who are both good leaders on and off the ice is a great move for the organization.
Utah now has Nick Bjugstad, Matias Maccelli, and Karel Vejmelka who's names have been around the rumor mill.
With less than two days until the deadline, Utah will be making more moves. Whether it is trades or more roster moves, GM Bill Armstrong will be busy improving their team to try and get them into the playoffs in their first season in the NHL.
