Sprong could provide Utah HC with some much-needed secondary scoring

The Utah Hockey Club finds themselves in a far better place than they were at the end of the Arizona Coyotes' existence.

In one off-season, Ryan and Ashley Smith partnered with GM Bill Armstrong, changing the direction of the organization.

They have essentially rebuilt their blue line with Mikhail Sergachev and John Marino's acquisitions and the signing of Ian Cole.

The forward group was the one area on which they didn't focus too much. This makes sense because they have so many young prospects who are ready to take the next step in the NHL, such as Dylan Guenther and Josh Doan.

However, there are still some free-agent targets who are available to be signed that could help Utah sure up their secondary scoring.

Daniel Sprong should be at the top of their list. At 27 years old, the Netherlands native is an ideal target for the team's top nine.

Last season, while playing for the Detroit Red Wings, he scored 18 goals and contributed 25 assists, totalling 43 points in 76 games. The year prior, with the Seattle Kraken, he hit a career-high with 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points in 66 games.

Sprong also has the offensive skills to move up the lineup and play in the top six and on the first-unit powerplay.

Sprong is coming off a contract that paid him $1.5 million, and based on the fact that he hasn't been signed yet, he will likely sign for somewhere around the same AAV.
