The no. 1 overall pick will be on display when the Sharks match up with Utah this season.

Back in June, Utah made history with their selection of Tij Iginla at no. 6 overall in the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft.

Five picks before him, however, the San Jose Sharks also made history by adding Boston University's Macklin Celebrini as their first-ever no. 1 overall selection.

With both of them signed to entry-level contracts, it means the two are on a possible collision course to play each other this season.

Not lost in the shuffle, however, are the names that will be on the roster with Celebrini and Iginla this season.

For the Sharks, they picked up Barclay Goodrow for a second stint while adding Alex Wennberg, which gives them some assistance on offence from their bottom six.

They'll also be waiting anxiously for the status on the health of Logan Couture, who played only six games before being shut down for the season in March 2024.

On Utah's side, they'll be noticeably more physical with the addition of recent Stanley Cup winner Kevin Stenlund, but he and Alex Kerfoot will likely be leaned on for secondary scoring behind Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley.

They too will be anxious for the return of Barrett Hayton, who missed most of last season with multiple injuries.

The first time both teams will face each other will be in the pre-season, but October 28 could be Celebrini's first actual game at Delta Center.

It'll be a physical matchup for sure, and it could end up being a low-scoring, playoff-style game, which bodes well for two teams who are learning how to win.
