Utah HC should make a splash and try to acquire Elias Pettersson

What will Utah do after its latest trademark name was refused

With all the news surrounding the Vancouver Canucks and their drama-filled season, they decided it was time to make a move, trading J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers yesterday.

Now, all eyes are on Elias Pettersson, and the Utah Hockey Club should take a serious run at acquiring him.

Utah has plenty of assets to make a deal happen, along with enough cap space to take on his entire contract.

It’s unclear at this time if the Canucks are still shopping Pettersson, but if they are, Utah needs to throw their hat in the race.

Based on the return Vancouver got for Miller, Utah would likely need to part with one of Lawson Crouse or Nick Schmaltz, Maverick Lamoureux, potentially another roster player like Jack McBain, and a first-round pick.

Obviously, Pettersson is more skilled than Miller, but given his lack of production this season, the asking price may not be much higher.

In 45 games, he has 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points. He’s in the first year of an eight-year deal with an AAV of $11.6 million.

If Utah can land Pettersson, it would give them another star forward to play alongside Clayton Keller.
