The Shops At South Town will become the home of the club's offices and practices after its acquisition Thursday by the Smith Entertainment Group.

Utah Hockey Club won't have to wait long to find a practice home.

The Smith Entertainment Group, under the direction of Utah HC owner Ryan Smith and his wife, Ashley, announced Thursday the official acquisition of The Shops At South Town in Sandy, which will house all practice facilities and offices for the club beginning in the 2025-2026 season.

In a press release given by the club, the entire 111-acre site will also be used for "community purposes", like "youth and amateur hockey and recreation".

The actual facility, however, will be built into the southeast end of the Shops, and the club further stated the mall will remain open for business throughout construction.

The announcement comes a couple months after the club said the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, across the street from Kearns High School, will be the team's practice facility for their inaugural season this coming year.

Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski called the announcement an "exciting step forward for professional sports in Utah", adding it would boost the growth of the city and the surrounding district.

“We are thankful for our collaboration with the City of Sandy on this project, and we look forward to sharing more details throughout the development process,” SEG executive Jim Olson added in the press release.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the new facility on August 12 at 10 a.m. Mountain time, the club added.
