He's been dubbed an "athletic freak" by the New York Times and a potential work-ethic changer by general manager Bill Armstrong.
Now he's getting his chance with the Utah Hockey Club.
Barrie Colts forward Cole Beaudoin, swept up at no. 24 overall in the Upper Deck NHL Draft in Las Vegas, signed his entry-level contract with Utah Monday morning.
As per club policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed by the team in the press release.
At 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, Beaudoin had 28 goals, accounting for 62 points for the Colts this past season, along with five more points in six playoff games.
Beaudoin, in addition to his scoring, can also prove to be a vocal leader; he was one of Barrie's alternate captains this season, something that was on full display during his appearance before the media with fellow first-round pick Tij Iginla at the Grand America Hotel on June 30.
With both first-round picks for Utah signed, it will be interesting to see what the decision will be for Iginla and Beaudoin in terms of playing time and where they will be playing come opening night.
But one thing is for sure: Utah Hockey Club is definitely not backing down from anyone, and they're making sure other teams know that.
