The Utah Hockey Club pulled off their first NHL trade, and it was a big one!

On the second day of the draft, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly announced that the Utah Hockey Club had made a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

They acquired defenseman Mikhail Sergachev from the Lightning in exchange for RFA defenseman J.J. Moser, forward Connor Geekie, 2025 2nd Round Pick (Utah), and 2024 7th Round (1999).

This trade changes the entire back end for Utah; Sergesachev will become the number-one defenseman in Utah and eat a ton of minutes for them.

Unfortunately, he dealt with injuries last season but managed to come back and play in the playoffs for Tampa.

Tampa, sadly, needs to move out some money to keep players like Victor Hedman and potentially open up the cap space for Steven Stamkos. They will need to sign J.J. Moser as well, but that will likely be under $3 million per season.

Overall, a great piece of work by GM Bill Armstrong, who is living up to the rumours about being very aggressive this off-season to make the team more competitive.
