The Utah Mammoth have made a few moves ahead of the start of training camp later this week, announcing that they’ve signed seven players to professional tryouts (PTOs).
The seven players signed are:
Forwards: Ryan McGregor, Sammy Walker, Austin Poganski, and Ty Tullio
Defenseman: Lleyton Moore
Goalies: Dryden McKay and Dylan Wells
These signings allow the players listed above to join the club during training camp and play in some preseason games. That should only add to the competition at Mammoth camp, especially with their deep prospect pool and much-improved roster.
Competition at camp is always a good thing, even with certain players already knowing they have roster spots locked in. It gives depth players a chance to push for openings, whether they’re signed to contracts or brought in on PTOs.
It’s worth noting, though, that players on PTOs aren’t property of the team they’re trying out with. They’re free to sign with another organization at any time during or after camp. So if one of these players has a strong showing but doesn’t make the Mammoth roster, there’s always the chance another team will pick them up.
NHL training camps are set to open over the next few days with physicals and fitness testing. Once more information becomes available, I’ll have you covered.
