Hi Coyotes Nation! My name is Remy Mastey. Ever since I could remember, the sport of hockey has always been ingrained in my blood.
Growing up, I would be glued to my TV watching the NHL. It was through my love and passion for hockey that I knew I wanted to pursue a career covering and writing about this great sport.
That is why in the summer of 2020, I moved across the country from my hometown of New York to Phoenix, Arizona to begin the next chapter of my life. I enrolled as a student at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication with a major in sports journalism.
I came to Arizona with one goal in mind: to become a hockey reporter. During my first two years of college, I covered a variety of Arizona State athletics including wrestling, gymnastics, swimming and softball.
While I deeply enjoyed writing about different sports, I still remained adamant on pursuing a career path as hockey journalist.
My first amazing opportunity came in the summer of 2022 where I worked as an editorial intern at NHL.com in New York City. During that summer, I wrote multiple articles specifically about off-season news. I also created draft capsules on prospects entering the NHL, interviewed high profile people connected to the NHL such as former player Craig MacTavish and most importantly learned first-hand about the hockey industry from professional journalists.
Once I returned to the Valley for my junior year of college, I began covering the Arizona Coyotes as a digital sports reporter for Arizona PBS/Cronkite News. Through my time at Cronkite News, I gained valuable experience as a hockey journalist by attending Coyotes practices, press conferences and games. I also had the opportunity to interview players as well.
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY SportsThis leads me to where I’m at today. When I was asked by The Hockey News to help startup their new Coyotes team site, I was ecstatic!
What should fans expect from this new site? My goal is to deliver content about the Coyotes in a unique way from a variety of different angles including video and written pieces. I plan on sharing my opinion on the state of the Coyotes and will also make sure to keep fans updated and well-informed with breaking news stories.
The Coyotes are in for an exciting year and I can’t wait to be a part of it!
