I know, this is the third time you've heard Spencer and I talk about this, but it's really a question that must be answered.
We've both discussed how big Utah can swing and how unique this opportunity is for them.
We also now know they will host a draft night party on June 28, with official merchandise up for grabs.
Now it's got numbers to back it up.
In a recent poll from Deseret News, with the findings published by both them and KSL.com, it discovered 78% of the state has already heard about the team.
Yet 37% of them are refusing to attend games.
While this makes the old Coyotes fanbase laugh derisively, take it with a grain of salt: some fans responding live in remote areas of the state, while some are simply unwilling to take the hit in their pocketbooks.
(And plus, at least we have an arena we can call home.)
Let's be clear: Interest is running high, as evidenced by the turnout at the fan forum in April.
And Utah is truly in a unique position because they can either switch into win-now mode or chug along in rebuild mode, even as general manager Bill Armstrong continues to preach patience.
Here's the bottom line: We won't know how much interest there really is until the first game of the year. October 4 seems like a long ways away, but it will come fast.
Until then, the numbers can say all they want, because we know most numbers don't lie.
But when you compare that with the passion of the fans, then you find out that sometimes, the odds are never really against you.
