The 19-year old Russian forward caught many eyes at prospect development camp this week, and for good reason.

His name was heard loud and clear as Utah Hockey Club's inaugural prospect development camp scrimmage ended with awards Friday at Delta Center.

And it definitely won't be the last time.

That name would be Danil But, the former no. 12 overall pick by the Arizona Coyotes in 2023, now the property of the Utah Hockey Club.

But had a breakout year in the KHL, putting up 21 points in 55 games for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl after spending his first two years in the under-16 and under-17 programs for the club, as well as two stints in the Russian minor leagues.

The former first-round pick made his name known in Friday's open scrimmage at Delta Center for the fans, posting four goals for Team White, including the first three for the squad in the game.

It capped off a remarkable week for the 19-year old who received camp Most Valuable Player honors from player development director Lee Stempniak.

His name will be heard quite a bit more as we approach training camp; there is a possibility But could be a contender for an opening-night roster spot alongside defencemen Noel Nordh and Dmitry Simashev, who themselves had impressive showings.

Whatever happens, But's performance goes to show just how deep and talented this prospect pool is, and it gives a glimpse of what could be in the future.
