The two young squads will look to take that long-awaited next step in their quest to learn how to win.

They say patience is a virtue.

Unfortunately, the Buffalo Sabres have had to be very patient in the last nearly 20 years since the team even made it past the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

What Sabres fans must understand is that not all hope is lost in a rebuild.

Yes, it takes a while, but look at how Utah built themselves through shrewd trades and clever drafting.

It's yielded them a deep prospect pool and a loaded roster that will make for some tough decisions in training camp.

Buffalo has done the same with the drafting of Owen Power, Konsta Helenius, and Rasmus Dahlin.

They've also now added names like Sam Lafferty, Ryan McLeod, and Alex Tuch to help boost their leadership ability, and let me tell you, Tage Thompson is about to be a stud.

They've also got the right man in place in Lindy Ruff, who returns for his second stint with the Sabres.

Buffalo and Utah, therefore, have the same goal in place: they must learn how to get involved in -- then win -- meaningful games.

This would be a great opportunity to do so, as both teams look to take the next step in their developments, both individually and collectively.

And along the way, these games might just show what is possible for both Utah and Buffalo in the future, both now and later.
