The young forward spoke about playing on the checking line and how Utah's "next man up" mentality has toughened the squad so far.

Even though he's been placed on the third line with Alex Kerfoot and Lawson Crouse, Josh Doan said his goal has always been to develop his defensive game.

"They're both amazing at what they do, and they've been unbelievable for their whole careers," he added. "You just take it day by day and shift by shift, and learn as much as you can from them."

And that learning process has been part of the "next man up" mentality that has permeated the locker room, leading Utah to a 3-1-1 start heading into tomorrow's showdown with the Boston Bruins.

"We're pretty fortunate to have the guys that are capable of playing hard," Doan said. "Bear (head coach Andre Tourigny) has done a good job of pushing us to focus on the next game."

While Utah has had to weather plenty of storms, including a major injury to Sean Durzi on the road trip to the East Coast and some defensive inconsistencies, it isn't surprising that Doan, like most of the team, is plenty confident in what the club can accomplish.

"We're working together, which is good," he said. "No matter what's going on, we're always ready for the next game. We trust our game and we trust our speed."
