The club made the long-expected announcement prior to the final practice of training camp Friday.

Until Friday, 30 NHL teams had a captain.
The Utah Hockey Club added another one to the list.
In a press release Friday, the club officially announced Clayton Keller, the former no. 7 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, would be the club's first captain in franchise history.
"To be named captain of Utah Hockey Club is an enormous honor and one that Clayton has earned," Utah HC general manager Bill Armstrong said. "He’s looking forward to the challenges that come with serving as a captain and will be surrounded by a strong leadership group that will be able to support and help lead this team.
Armstrong, Keller, and head coach Andre Tourigny will be available for Keller's official unveiling as team captain at Hotel Park City later today.
Also, the Utah Hockey Club put the finishing touches on the Delta Center yesterday with the placement of a team logo statue on the plaza.
The logo now sits prominently next to the newly purple-colored Jazz note statue, a long-time icon in downtown Salt Lake.

The club will break camp with their final practice in Park City later today, and then play their pre-season finale tomorrow at Maverik Center against Colorado.
The game is being held there due to UFC 307 being staged at Delta Center.
