The 2024 NHL Draft is moving along quickly; we are now in the fourth round, and Utah had two picks.
With the 98th pick in the fourth round, Utah selected defenseman Gregory Biber.
Biber played with Rögle BK J20 in the J20 Nationell in Sweden. In 40 games, he had two goals, four assists, and six points, along with 88 PIMS.
Another pick, another defenseman taken by Utah. A team can't have enough blue liners in the pipeline, and that is what GM Bill Armstrong is doing. On top of the four straight draft picks that were defenders, Armstrong also acquired Mikhail Sergachev and John Marino.
It is no secret that Utah is trying to build its organization from the blue line out.
With the 103rd pick in the fourth round, Utah selected forward Gabe Smith.
For the first time since the first round of the draft, the Utah Hockey Club has selected a forward. Smith spent the last two seasons with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL.
Smith is a centerman who had nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 53 games. He will be a project who is a few years away from getting his chance on the NHL roster, but Utah has the patience to let him season in the QMJHL and AHL.
