It all started with asking the fans to call him "Spicy Tuna".
Now after signing a three-year contract extension that will keep the popular enforcer in the Beehive State, Liam O'Brien is ready to make a bigger impact on the ice.
"People have been really good to me; they've welcomed me," he said to reporters Wednesday on Zoom. "It's really exciting to see the buzz and the anticipation."
And there's no reason to not be excited, either.
Clayton Keller is coming off back-to-back 30-goal seasons, while Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther are primed for breakout years.
There's also multiple prospects being signed at a fast pace, and Utah could very well add another one -- or maybe more -- during the NHL Draft in less than 36 hours from now.
It isn't a surprise, then, because of that unity and those "good guys" in the locker room and the front office, O'Brien feels Utah HC is not far away from being a contender for a playoff spot.
And while the biggest thing on his mind this off-season is to introduce his newly born daughter to his family back home, it's hard to say he's not already part of the family in the Beehive State.
"I'm still in that transition stage (coming from Arizona), but everything has been smooth so far," O'Brien said. "I'm just excited to get the ball rolling and play some games in front of those fans."
