The two stars will miss the Canucks’ first game back from the holiday break.
The Vancouver Canucks will be without two of their biggest names in today’s afternoon matchup against the Seattle Kraken. After neither player was seen at practice yesterday, Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet confirmed that both Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes would not be playing today.
Concerns rose in Monday’s game against the San Jose Sharks when Pettersson left the game three minutes into the third period. He had two goals in the matchup, but Tocchet explained that he got “banged up” in the second period and was held out for the remainder of the game.

Hughes and Pettersson are currently the top two scorers for their team. The Canucks' captain currently leads in assists (34) and points (42), and has been the most valuable player for his team by far. Pettersson is currently second in points with 28, and is one of five Canucks who have 10 or more goals on the season.
Saturday’s game would have been Hughes’ 400th career game played. Unfortunately, he’ll have to wait to reach that milestone. Thatcher Demko gets the start today, and it’s expected that Max Sasson and Erik Brännström will slot in for Pettersson and Hughes. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. PST.
