Sherwood threw his 200th hit of the season in the second period against the San Jose Sharks.

On Monday night, Kiefer Sherwood became the first player this season to throw 200 hits. The 200th hit came during the second period of the Vancouver Canucks vs San Jose Sharks game when Sherwood hit defenceman Shakir Mukhamadullin. The 22-year-old defenceman has an interesting connection to the Canucks as he was selected with the draft pick Vancouver sent to Tampa Bay in the J.T. Miller trade.

Sherwood has had a dream start to his Canucks career. Not only does he have more than 60 hits compared to the next-highest player, but he also has a career-high 12 goals in just 34 games. As for his 19 points, that is just eight off his career high, with more than half a season to go. Signed to a two-year, $3 million contract this offseason, Sherwood is easily in contention for the best free agent signing of 2024.

Up next for Sherwood will be the single-season record of 383. The record is currently held by Nashville Predators defenceman Jeremy Lauzon, who hit the mark last season. With Sherwood currently on pace for 482 hits this season, it looks like the record will fall, with the Canucks winger setting a new record by the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
