The Vancouver Canucks moved to 2-0 at the 2024 Young Stars Classic after a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

After falling behind 2-0, the Vancouver Canucks scored four straight en route to a 4-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. Josh Bloom, Elias Pettersson, Anthony Romani and Vilmer Alrkisson provided the offence while Ty Young stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced. With the win, the Canucks move to 2-0 at the 2024 Young Stars Classic and once again will finish with the best record at the tournament.
Despite the slow start and problematic first period, Vancouver's prospects were able to find their legs late in the second, which helped propel them to victory. The Canucks were physical and, thanks to a strong forecheck, were able to force turnovers in the third period. Overall, it was a strong effort by the group, highlighted by strong performances from depth players who played a significant role in the comeback.
Arguably, Vancouver's best player on the night was Young, who looked confident in the net. He didn't give up a ton of dangerous rebounds and kept the Canucks in the game early with 13 first-period saves. Projected to make the jump to the pro game this year; performances like this should help Young gain some confidence heading into the season.
Alriksson was also a standout for multiple reason. Not only did the 6'6" forward play a physical game, but he was able to get on the scoresheet, scoring Vancouver's fourth goal. Entering his second season with the Guelph Storm, Alriksson's size and skill should make him a matchup nightmare in the OHL.

Arguably, the biggest positive from this game was that the Canucks were able to shake off the slow start and eventually take control of the game. After Bloom scored Vancouver's first goal, it felt like there was a momentum shift as the Canucks became stronger and more cohesive as a unit at both ends of the ice. Ultimately, if the prospects can replicate the way they played in the third period tomorrow against the Flames, they should be able to leave Pentiction with a perfect 3-0 record.
Up next for Vancouver will be against Calgary on Monday afternoon. The Flames enter the game having won their last matchup, drafting the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Saturday. Game time is set for 2:30 pm PT and can be streamed live on Canucks.com.
