The Vancouver Canucks home struggles continued on Thursday night as they fell 5-2 to the New York Islanders. Vancouver's offence came from Jonathan Lekkerimäki, who scored his first NHL goal as well as Tyler Myers, who scored in first of the season. As for Kevin Lankinen, he stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced and was one of the main reasons why the Canucks were not blown out on home ice.

Outside of Lekkerimäki's goal and Lankinen's play, there were very few positives from this game. Vancouver generated only six shots through the first two periods and looked lost in their own zone for most of the game. Ultimatley, it was a disappointing performance, and dropped their home record to 2-3-3.

As for the mood post-game, the players were not happy with tonight's performance. Quinn Hughes called the loss "Frustrating" while J.T. Miller said "We just keep making a habit of making other teams nights way too easy." Despite some positives including, as mentioned Lekkerimäki's goal and Dakota Joshua's return, no one was happy with the team performance.

Head Coach Rick Tocchet echoed a similar sentiment, but went a step forward offering an apology to the fans. Before he took questions, Tocchet said, "'Let me start. Don't ask me about individual players today. Okay, no offense. I apologize to the fans. We're not playing good enough at home. It's on me. Guys played light tonight. I thought we were ready to go, we weren't. It's on me. I got to get them to play harder in the first period, spurts here and there, but not enough from a lot of guys. So got to go practice tomorrow and go right back to the drawing board."

Tocchet's press conference was brief but he did mention how he was impressed by the way New York played. The Canucks coach said, "Didn't move our feet. We talked about hitting the weak side, ee didn't. We were jamming pucks. Forwards were skating backwards instead of knifeing through. It's not the defense or the four, it's a collection of five. I give the Islanders credit, they played a great game. Well coached team tonight, and Patrick (Roy) outcoached me tonight."

In the end, this game will hopefully serve as a learning lesson for Vancouver. As Tocchet mentioned, the Canucks can not be putting together performances like this, especially at home when the fans are spending big bucks to attend games. With a big back-to-back scheduled for the weekend, Vancouver needs to solve their home issues and quick if they want to stay near the top of the Pacific Divison.
