Quinn Hughes recorded assist number 300 in the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks

Quinn Hughes made history as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-1 on Tuesday night. Vancouver's captain hit the 300-assist mark in his 376th career game, becoming the third-fastest defenceman in NHL history to achieve the feat. As for the other two on the list, they are some of the best to ever play the game in Hockey Hall of Famers, Bobby Orr (346 games) and Brian Leetch (368 games).
Shifting over to the game itself, the Canucks received goals from Brock Boeser, Kiefer Sherwood, Elias Pettersson, Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen, while Kevin Lankinen stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced. With the win, Lankinen has collected at least a point in all eight of his games this season, improving his record to 6-0-2. Also, in the victory, Vancouver continues their recent dominance over the Ducks and has now won eight straight against their Pacific Division rivals.

The biggest takeaway from this game has to be Hughes' performance. On top of recording three assists, he had ten shot attempts and two blocked shots in 20:54 of ice time. Despite winning the Norris Trophy last season, it looks as though Hughes has taken his game to another level, which is bad news for the rest of the teams in the NHL.
Post-game, Head Coach Rick Tocchet spoke about Hughes hitting 300 assists, saying, "He obviously controlled a lot of the play, special player. He gets a lot of shots off. That's hard to do, especially when teams are keen on you. So, yeah, I'm not shocked."
Pettersson also deserves praise for his performance tonight. He created screens and traffic in front of the net and was rewarded with his second goal of the season. Also credited with five shots and a takeaway, it looks like Pettersson is finding his groove and could be on the verge of breaking out.
Lastly, it was yet another impressive performance from the Sherwood-Teddy Blueger-Heinen line. The trio combined for two goals and seven hits. Once again, it seems as though Vancouver has built the strongest third line in the league, as this trio continually finds ways to impact the game.
Tocchet also went into detail about Sherwood's goal in the first period and how it is an example of how he wants the team to play. Tocchet said, "I thought Heinen played the climb out of the corner perfectly. He was aggressive and got it, and then obviously, we counter-attacked and got some off the rush. I think we got a couple of rush goals tonight. It's nice to see."
In the end, this was an impressive performance by the Canucks. They were able to take advantage of their opportunities and controlled play for the majority of the time at even-strength. Now 6-2-3 on the season, Vancouver has a chance to end their California road trip perfectly on Thursday night.
