While there are still over 20 games left in the season, the Vancouver Canucks game on Saturday night should be considered a must-win. The Canucks are battling for their postseason lives and need to pick up as many points as possible in order to secure a berth in the 2025 Stanely Cup Playoffs. While defeating the Seattle Kraken shouldn't be a complicated task, losing, especially in regulation, would vastly impact the Canucks postseason odds.

As of Saturday morning, MoneyPuck.com had Vancouver's playoff odds at 34.4%. The Canucks were slightly below the Calgary Flames, who were at 35.9%, and were projected to finish the season at 89.2 points. MoneyPuck also provides Stanley Cup odds, which, for Vancouver, sit at 0.2%.

MoneyPuck also provides information on how playoff odds will be impacted depending on certain results. For example, as of 3:00 pm PT, a regulation loss would drop the Canucks playoff odds to 27.4%, while a regulation win would bump the odds to 41%. As for an overtime/shootout loss, the odds would drop to 34.2%, while a victory in extra times bumps them up to 40.4%.

In the end, the difference between a regulation win and a loss is a 13.6% swing in the playoffs odds. As mentioned, there is still plenty of time left in the season, but at this point, Vancouver can not afford to drop points to teams below them in the standings. While it won't be easy, as this is a rivalry game, the Canucks need to find a way to spark their offence in order to avoid another disappointing loss to a division foe.

Vancouver embarks on the last game of their five-game road trip, taking on the Seattle Kraken on Saturday, March 1. Most recently, the Kraken suffered a 7–2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. They’ll face off against the Canucks at 7:00 pm PT.
