On Friday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that defenseman Noah Juulsen will be out of the lineup for approximately 12 weeks. According to the post, Juulsen had a successful lower-body procedure, with his recovery expected to last until the middle of May. While the Canucks were not specific as to what part of the lower body the procedure was for, Rick Dhaliwal of "Donnie and Dhali" reported earlier this week that Juulsen was dealing with a sports hernia issue.

Through 35 games this season, Juulsen has recorded 101 hits, along with 60 blocked shots. The Surrey B.C.-born defender was averaging 16:17 of ice time and played over 80 minutes this season on the penalty kill. Earlier this season, Juulsen played his 100th game with Vancouver and also eclipsed the 150-game mark for his NHL career.

Juulsen's injury impacts the Canucks in multiple ways. Not only does the club lose valuable depth on the right side of their defence, but also a potential trade piece ahead of the 2025 deadline. Juulsen is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and, if healthy, could have been dealt for potentially a late-round draft pick.

With Juulsen now out for the rest of the season, it could mean more opportunities for Victor Mancini, who is one of three right-handed defenders on Vancouver's NHL roster. Mancini was acquired as part of the J.T. Miller trade and made his Canucks debut on Sunday against the Utah Hockey Club. While Vancouver does have left-shot defenders in Carson Soucy and Derek Forbort, who can play both sides, Mancini should feature in some games for the Canucks down the stretch.
