Garland, Bloom and Wouters score for winning team, Blueger has lone goal in losing cause

Conor Garland scored the winning goal early in the second half -- yes, half -- as his Blue team won the Canucks training camp scrimmage 3-1 on Saturday in Victoria.

Garland and centre Pius Suter showed flashes of chemistry throughout the 40 minute affair at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Those two have skated on a line with Arshdeep Bains throughout camp and again in Saturday's scrimmage.

Josh Bloom opened the scoring on a first period penalty shot after having his stick slashed by Sheldon Dries. Bloom walked in all alone and beat Thatcher Demko between the legs. The 1-0 lead held up through intermissions.

Teddy Blueger scored the White team's lone goal briefly tying the game 1-1. Blueger spent Saturday centring a line with Phil DiGiuseppe and Anthony Beauvillier. But Garland answered shortly afterward and then Chase Wouters rounded out the scoring with the Blue team's third goal.

Casey DeSmith posted a shutout in his first half of the game for the victorious Blue team while Arturs Silovs gave up just one goal in his period of action for the winning side. Demko and Nikita Tolopilo split the netminding duties for the White team with Tolopilo surrending a pair of second period goals in defeat.

Jack Studnicka didn't figure in the scoring, but continued a strong camp showing on Saturday as did Nils Aman on a line with Dakota Joshua and Linus Karlsson.

Carson Soucy drew the assignment of playing alongside Quinn Hughes on defense.  Ian Cole had a solid showing in Saturday's game in a pairing with Filip Hronek. The Tyler Myers-Guillaume Brisebois duo had a strong outing in the scrimmage.

The real evaluation period begins on Sunday. The Canucks have yet to reveal the roster they will send to Calgary for the team's first preseason contest.
