Vancouver Canucks netminding prospect Arturs Silovs is in the running for more individual accolades after leading Latvia to a bronze medal at the World Hockey Championships

Just when it seemed things couldn't get much better for Arturs Silovs, the Vancouver Canucks top goaltending prospect has today been named a finalist for the IIHF Male Player of the Year.

The 22-year-old led Latvia to a historic bronze medal at this month's World Hockey Championship. On top of that, he was named goalie of the tournament, was named to the championship All Star team and was awarded the event MVP. And now he's up for more hardware.

Silovs is one of seven finalists for the IIHF Male Player of the year along with Conor Bedard who starred for Canada at the World Junior Championship. The other finalists are Andres Ambuhl (Switzerland), Adam Fantilli (Canada), Dominik Kubalik (Czechia), JJ Peterka (Germany), Moritz Seider (Germany). Silovs is the only goaltender to be among the finalists.

The winner will be announced on June 19th.

American Hilary Knight was recently named the IIHF Female Player of the Year.
