Quinn Hughes on hand in West Kelowna for first official team-related function as captain

On Monday, Quinn Hughes was named 15th captain of the Vancouver Canucks. On Friday, he served as an honorary fire captain as he joined the team's President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford in West Kelowna to donate $250,000 on behalf of the organization to wildfire relief in the area.
“As many know, my grandfather was a New York City firefighter for more than 30 years,” said Hughes proudly. “Hearing stories from him and my family undoubtedly had an impact on me growing up, so when Jim asked me if I wanted to be here today, I was honoured to be asked.”
The Canucks raised funds through an on-line auction and that amount was topped up by the Canucks For Kids fund and team ownership. The donation was made to the Canadian Red Cross BC Wild Fire Appeal.

West Kelowna was ravaged by raging wildfires in mid-August. Thousands of residents were evacuated from the area and some lost their homes.
