Today’s matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and the New York Rangers has been a whirlwind, starting with Kiefer Sherwood setting a new NHL season hit record and Quinn Hughes registering 400 career points, to Elias Pettersson and Nils Höglander not coming out to start the third period. Around halfway through the third period, the Canucks announced that both Pettersson and Höglander would not be returning to the game.

Pettersson went to the dressing room during the second period after what appeared to be a messy play in the faceoff dot. He returned a little while later, but had his minutes significantly limited compared to what he usually plays.

While a reason for their absences has yet to be released, Pettersson and Höglander have been heating up as of late. Pettersson is currently riding a six-game point streak that will be coming to an end today, as he didn’t register a point on Vancouver’s first goal of the game. During this span of time, he has put up three goals and six assists. Höglander has tallied six points since being put back on a line with Pettersson on March 12 against the Calgary Flames
