Nikita Zadorov is set to make his Canucks debut against the Calgary Flames.

The Vancouver Canucks (15-8-1) kick off the month of December against division rivals, the Calgary Flames (10-10-3). This game has extra meaning to it as not only will it be Nikita Zadorov's first game as a Canuck, but it comes against the team that traded him just a few days ago. Plenty of emotion is expected as both teams look to start the final month of 2023 off on the right foot.

Based on line combinations at practice, Zadorov's partner on the blue line tonight will be Tyler Myers. Both over 6'5" and 225 pounds, head coach Rick Tocchet looks to be creating the NHL equivalent of the Brothers of Destruction from the WWE. The hope is that while the pairing didn't work in Buffalo almost a decade ago, it can be an efficient duo in today's NHL.

It is also clear that Tocchet is a big fan of Zadorov. When talking to the media, the Canucks coach said, "He can skate. He's got a good shot. He's not just some big guy out there. He can do other aspects of a good defenceman. We're really excited about the trade." Expect the big Russian not just to play a meaningful role at even strength but also on the penalty kill, where Vancouver has struggled this season.

    Players to Watch

    Nikita Zadorov

All eyes will be on Zadorov and how he fits into the Canucks. While judging players off one game is unfair, this is a player who could be a big part of their future if re-signed before the end of the season. If he can easily integrate himself into Vancouver's lineup, he could be the missing piece that pushes them into contender status.

    Connor Zary

At the other end of the ice, Vancouver must be careful whenever Connor Zary is on the ice. The former Kamloops Blazers forward is already up to 10 points through his first 13 games and could be up for Calder Trophy consideration at the end of the season. If his days in the WHL are any indication, he could be problematic for the Canucks for a long time.
