As of March 17, the Canucks had the third most difficult schedule, with their strength of schedule being .571. The strength of the schedule is determined by the combined points percentage for all future opponents.
As for some of the teams Vancouver is battling, all rank lower on Tankathon's list. The Utah Hockey Club (15 GR) is the closest at 16th with a .549 combined points percentage, while the Calgary Flames (17 GR) are ranked 19th with a .543 combined points percentage. Lastly, the St. Louis Blues (14 GR) have the easiest schedule in the NHL, with their combined points percentage at .525.
In short, these percentages show that the Canucks are in a tough spot heading into the final 15 games of the season. Not only do they need to pull off some upsets over the next few weeks, but they also need to hope that teams like the Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks can take down the three other teams competing for a postseason berth. Ultimately, Vancouver can not afford any more slip-ups; otherwise, it could be another year with no postseason hockey.
