The Vancouver Canucks have made some changes to their ownership group, the Aquilini Investment Group announced on Friday night. Paolo Aquilini, son of Luigi and brother of Francesco and Roberto, will not be with the family’s investment group moving forward. This also means he will no longer be with the Canucks as their Alternate Governor.

Rumours rose on Thursday that the Aquilini’s could potentially sell the team. This came after Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Sun included this thought in an article. However, the ownership group has since denied any ideas of the Canucks being up for sale. Instead, they released a statement that included the information that Paolo would be leaving.

“In response to various media inquiries that we have received and due to a private family matter, Paolo has resigned from his positions with the team and will be leaving the ownership group,” the statement says. “The remaining owners take their role as stewards of this community asset with deep responsibility and pride, and remain fully committed to bringing the Cup to Vancouver. This team holds great meaning for the family and is not for sale. There will be no further comments.”

Paolo has since been removed from the Canucks website, where his picture once sat as a member of the ownership group. Daniel Wagner of Vancouver is Awesome also noted that Christian Aquilini, formerly a dressing room attendant, has also been removed from the website.

The Aquilini family have owned the Canucks since 2004, during which they only had a 50 per cent share. Only two years later, they purchased former owner John McCaw’s share and have remained the sole owners of the Canucks since. The Aquilini’s also own Rogers Arena, where the Canucks play out of, as well as the team’s AHL franchise, the Abbotsford Canucks.
