Quinn Hughes will not participate in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off.
On Sunday, Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced that Quinn Hughes would not participate in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off. The Canucks captain is recovering from a reported oblique injury, which has kept him out of the lineup for the past four games. Hughes was one of the first six players named to Team USA back in June and was projected to play a key role for the team throughout the tournament.

While Hughes has been skating over the past week, the decision to skip the tournament is arguably best for the player and organization. It was also clearly a difficult decision as the deadline for replacements to be named is on Monday, February 10. Hughes has not represented the USA since 2019, when he played in both the World Juniors and World Championship.
With Hughes now out of the tournament, Vancouver will only have three representatives at the event. Center Elias Pettersson will represent Team Sweden, while goaltender Kevin Lankinen will play for Team Finland. Rick Tocchet will also be at the 4 Nations Face-Off as he is one of the assistant coaches for Team Canada.
The 4 Nations Face-Off starts Wednesday, February 12, when Canada takes on Sweden. The game will feature two Canucks as Pettersson will take on Tocchet. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 pm PT and can viewed on Sportsnet.
