Vancouver’s first shutout of the season was a putrid 6–0 loss to the New Jersey Devils at the end of October. Despite putting up 43 hits, the Canucks only produced 20 shots on goal. The only Canucks to have more than one shot on goal in this game were Kiefer Sherwood, Pius Suter, and Quinn Hughes. Vancouver’s lack of offence wasn’t due to a lack of opportunities — in fact, they were given four power plays compared to the Devils’ two. One of these man-advantages even resulted in a shorthanded goal against after Vancouver boggled the puck.
The Canucks were blanked for the second time this season in a 3–0 loss to the Nashville Predators. While they were missing a crop of regulars such as Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Filip Hronek, and Thatcher Demko, Vancouver still couldn’t produce a goal. Again, their power play failed to convert, going goalless in all three of the opportunities they were given. Even with the higher shot count of the game (27), the Canucks’ mix of offensive woes and the solid play of Juuse Saros resulted in Vancouver’s second goalless game of the season.
Vancouver didn’t have to wait long to be shut out again, as only a week after their loss to Nashville, they fell 2–0 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The team put up a measly 14 shots on goal throughout the entire game, two of which came from three different power play opportunities. One thing to note about this loss is that Vancouver played a very structured defensive team in the Hurricanes, who blocked 29 of the Canucks’ chances from getting to their net. Throughout all three periods, Vancouver only managed to log five high-danger chances-for, with four of them coming during the first period.
The last time the Canucks were blanked during the 2024–25 season, they suffered a 5–0 loss to the Seattle Kraken. Even though Vancouver technically still had a chance at playoffs after the result, this game still felt like the definitive end of their postseason hopes. While the Canucks did outshoot the Kraken 24–19, Seattle blocked 24 of Vancouver’s total shot attempts from making it to the net. This game also featured an offensively-stalled power play from the Canucks, as they only managed four shots on net in the three opportunities they received.
