Ex-Canuck Traded For A Second-Round Pick On Trade Deadline Day

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline day is in full swing, and one of the first moves of the day involves a former Vancouver Canucks forward. Anthony Beauvillier, who played 55 games as part of the Canucks in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, has been moved from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. Beauvillier was most recognized during his time as a Canucks for being one of the key pieces in the Bo Horvat trade in 2023.

In his 55 games as a Canuck, Beauvillier put up 11 goals and 17 assists. Prior to being moved to Vancouver, he spent seven seasons with the New York Islanders, having been drafted by them in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft. Vancouver flipped Beauvillier to the Chicago Blackhawks in November of 2023 in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

As mentioned previously, Beauvillier was one of three pieces Vancouver acquired when they traded Horvat, their former captain, to the New York Islanders back in 2023. They also received prospect Aatu Räty and a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft that they used to help grab Filip Hronek.

With Beauvillier fetching a second-round pick, fans have to wonder how much a high-quality forward could go for on the market. While he has made it clear that he wants to stay in Vancouver, it's still unknown what the team will be doing with Brock Boeser come deadline time. Regardless of whether they decide to buy-in and make that playoff push or sell and save up for the future, the team needs to commit to a decision and stick with it.
