A report from The Athletic has surfaced that says the New York Rangers inquired about the trade availability for Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller.
"A league source said the Rangers recently inquired with the Canucks about J.T. Miller, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence," Arthur Staple wrote. "Miller was a 2011 first-round pick by the Rangers and has been coveted by Drury before — the Rangers were after Miller before the 2021-22 trade deadline, but wouldn't include Braden Schneider in a deal. Miller then signed a seven-year extension worth $8-million a year, pulling him off the market."
The Rangers have struggled recently, losing five straight games. GM Chris Drury is not shy about saying his team is open to trade. Elliotte Friedman reported that Captain Jacob Trouba and alternate captain Chris Kreider are on the trade block.
Miller is currently away from the Canucks on an indefinite personal leave. Before his absence, Miller had six goals and ten assists in 7 games. Miller is in year two of seven of a contract with a $8 million cap hit, making this trade incredibly hard to create due to each team's cap situation.
