One of the Vancouver Canucks’ pending 2026 free agents is rumoured to have re-signed with the club. Rick Dhaliwal of “Donnie & Dhali” reported on Thursday night that Vancouver has reached an agreement with forward Conor Garland on a six-year contract worth $36M. This possible extension comes after the forward scored 19 goals and 31 assists in 81 games played in 2024–25 and won a IIHF World Championship gold medal with Team USA.

Garland was acquired by the Canucks on July 23, 2021, as he and Oliver Ekman-Larsson were dealt to Vancouver by the Arizona Coyotes. Heading back the other way were forwards Jay Beagle, Antoine Roussel, and Loui Eriksson, as well as three different draft picks including Vancouver’s 2021 first-rounder. Only four days after being acquired by the Canucks, Garland signed a five-year contract with the team that paid $4.95M per season.

Since joining Vancouver, Garland has not registered less than 45 points in one season. He started his Canucks career off with a 19-goal, 33-assist season in 77 games played, putting him fifth on the team in scoring. As time has passed, he has developed into a forward who can be relied upon in all situations including on both special teams. Off the ice, he has become a fan-favourite for his no-quit energy and willingness to battle on all sides of the ice.

With Garland reportedly extended, this leaves five UFA-bound players whose contracts are set to expire after the 2025–26 season. This includes newly-acquired forward Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, Kiefer Sherwood, Derek Forbort, and Thatcher Demko. As well, if not signed by the start of next year’s free agency period, Linus Karlsson will be a Group-6 UFA.
