John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images - Roberto Luongo Reveals He Declined Red Wings Offer Sheet After Canucks Acquired Him

Former Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo revealed that the Detroit Red Wings tried signing him to an offer sheet.

Luongo said the offer came after he was dealt to the Canucks in 2006. He didn't reveal the terms of the deal, but when he was offered a contract by the Red Wings, he rejected it. However, that deal would end up being worth more than what he signed for with the Canucks.

The legendary goalie signed a four-year $27 million deal with the Canucks for an AAV of $6.75 million. With those numbers in mind, it would be reasonable to guess that the Red Wings may have offered Luongo a $30 million contract. The numbers of what was offered may never be released, but the fact this happened is significant news.
