Canucks prospect Arturs Silovs was perfect on Saturday helping host Latvia blank Kazakhstan

The IIHF World Hockey Championships are quickly turning into an Arty Party.

Top Vancouver Canucks goaltending prospect Arturs Silovs posted a 16 save shutout on Saturday helping host Latvia blank Kazakhstan 7-0.

The victory was the fourth straight for both the Latvian team and for Silovs himself. The 22-year-old is now 4-1 at the tournament with one game remaining in the preliminary round.

On Saturday, the Latvian skaters made life relatively easy on Silovs holding their opponents to six shots in each of the first two periods and then keeping Kazakhstan to just four shots on goal over the final 20 minutes.

Silovs has surrendered just three goals in his last three games and 12 in his six appearances so far. He has now stopped 131 of the 143 shots he has faced in the tournament giving him a 91.6% save percentage to go along with his 2.02 GAA.

With the win over Kazakhstan, Latvia improves to 4-2 in the preliminary round. With 11 points, the Latvians are tied with Canada in Group B. Latvia next plays on Tuesday against unbeaten Switzerland.

Four teams from each group will advance to the elimination round starting next week.
