“I’ve Been Preparing For This Opportunity For A Long Time”: Canucks’ Kevin Lankinen Speaks On Signing Long-Term In Vancouver

Elias Pettersson and Kevin Lankinen started their week with one more 4 Nations Face-Off matchup — Pettersson against Team USA, and Lankinen against Team Canada. Pettersson and Team Sweden won their match 2–1 in overtime against the USA, while Lankinen was pulled from the net after letting in four goals in Finland’s 5–3 loss to Canada. Neither player qualified for the championship game.

Vancouver resumed play on Saturday night, taking on a Vegas Golden Knights lineup missing Shea Theodore and William Karlsson. Both teams looked a bit disjointed, which is reasonable given the fact that neither of them had played together in two weeks. Vegas soon took over the game in shot counts, and ultimately won 3–1. Lankinen had a stellar showing — he was the main reason the score was so close.

The Canucks were back in action on Sunday, taking on Utah Hockey Club less than 24 hours after losing to Vegas. In another low-offense, low-scoring affair, Vancouver suffered a 2–1 loss to Utah. Artūrs Šilovs had a great first game since late November, stopping 30 of 32 shots. Jake DeBrusk was the lone goal scorer of the weekend, as he had both of the goals in both of the team’s games.
