Brock Boeser off to hot start with four goals and five points

Brock Boeser off to hot start with four goals and five points

USA Today - THN Canucks Player of the Week for October 16th

Brock Boeser is The Hockey News Vancouver Canucks Player of the Week playing a key role in the Canucks 2-0 start to the new National Hockey League season.

The 26-year-old winger had a natural hattrack and career-best four goals on opening night in the Canucks 8-1 win over Edmonton. He then added a primary assist on a Nils Höglander first period goal in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Oilers. Saturday's game was the 400th of his NHL career.

A volume shooter when at the top of his game, Boeser has nine shots on goal through the team's first two games of the season.

The fewest games Boeser has required to reach the five goal mark in any of his previous six full NHL seasons is 10 -- as a rookie in 2017-18 and again in the COVID shortened 2020 season. Last season he needed 24 games to score his fifth goal of the season.

Considering Boeser suffered a hand injury on the final day of training camp and missed the entire pre-season a year ago, he is off to a considerably better start this time around.

And to top off a successful week for the hockey club, Boeser has earned THN Player of the Week honours. He'll try to help his team win its third consecutive game to start the season when the Canucks face off against the Flyers in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon.

Honourable mention: Casey DeSmith and Nils Höglander.
