Throughout the morning of June 16, the 12 countries who will participate in the 2026 Winter Olympic men’s hockey tournament have each revealed six preliminary players on their rosters. Two members of the Vancouver Canucks have already been selected to represent their countries, as Teddy Blueger and Artūrs Šilovs will compete for Team Latvia. Joining them in the tournament is Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, who will play for Team USA.
The 2026 Winter Olympics, which will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy, will be Hughes’ first as a member of Team USA. While he has yet to play in his first Olympic Games, he still has plenty of experience representing Team USA in international events. He has two U20 IIHF World Junior Championship tournaments under his belt, from which he earned bronze (2018) and silver (2019). He had three assists in seven games in 2018 and two assists in seven games in 2019.
As well as taking part in two World Juniors, Hughes has also played for Team USA at the IIHF World Championships. In two stints with the men’s team, Hughes has one bronze medal. He had two assists in the 10 games he played in during the 2018 tournament and put up three assists in right games in 2019. He was also named to Team USA for the 4 Nations Faceoff in February, but ultimately did not play due to injury. Hughes has been a commanding force for Vancouver’s offence and will continue this role when the Olympics come around in 2026.
