Teams sends five players back to their junior organizations
The Vancouver Canucks have reduced their training camp roster sending five players back to their junior hockey clubs. Among them is goaltender Ty Young of the Prince George Cougars who inked an entry level deal with the team before being re-assigned on Monday.
Young was a fifth round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft (144th overall). The 19-year-old Coaldale, Alberta native went 15-14-3-9 in 34 WHL appearances last season posting a 3.89 GAA and an .889 save percentage.
“Ty has made some improvements since we drafted him last year and we were pleased to see him play meaningful games in the WHL playoffs,” said Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin in a statement. “He has good size and our goalie development team see a lot of potential in his game if he continues to put in the work and follow the plan we have put in place for him moving forward.”
It's the second straight day the Canucks announced the signing of one of their prospects. On Sunday, the team got Sawyer Mynio under contract.
While there were no surprises in the first round of demotions, it's worth noting that Kirill Kudryavtsev turned some heads with his performance at his first Canucks training camp a year ago. He took part in Young Stars in Penticton earlier this month and was invited to main camp in Victoria. However, he gets sent back to junior without appearing in an NHL preseason game this year. In fact, none of the players re-assigned on Monday suited up in the team's first exhibition game on Sunday in Calgary.
The Canucks gave all of the players in camp the day off on Monday. They will play back to back games on Wednesday in Edmonton and Thursday in Seattle.
