The Canucks coach will be behind the bench in Toronto at the All-Star Game.
The Vancouver Canucks will have yet another representative at the 2024 NHL All-Star Game as head coach Rick Tocchet will be behind the bend for one of the teams. Tocchet's inclusion in the event was a result of the Canucks ending the first half with the highest point percentage in the Pacific Division. He will be joined by Winnipeg Jets' Rick Bowness, New York Rangers' Peter Laviolette and either Flordia Panthers' Paul Maurice or Boston Bruins' Jim Montgomery.
Not only has Tocchet guided Vancouver to the top of the Pacific Division, but his team currently sits second in the NHL by points (59) and point percentage (.702%). The Canucks also lead the league in goals per game at 3.90 while ranking fourth in goals against per game with 2.60. If both these trends continue, Vancouver would finish with their second-highest goals per game and ninth-lowest goals against per game in franchise history.
This could be a historic All-Star Game for the Canucks, as they could be sending five players to the annual event. They would break the previous record of three plus a coach, which happened in 2003 and 2011. On top of Quinn Hughes, who has already been voted in, Thatcher Demko, Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser were all near the top of fan voting and are expected to be included in the event.
This year's event will take place in Toronto from Feb 1-3. While there will be a skills competition and game, this edition will be slightly different as a fantasy draft will be used to determine the teams. You can catch all the action on either Sportsnet or CBC.
